Catharine Rindlaub made a scrapbook of newspaper clippings about temperance and Woman's Christian Temperance Union activities in Wisconsin. Also includes clippings about Mary C. Upham, wife of ex-Governor W.H. Upham, the retiring president of the WCTU in Wisconsin; a blank membership card for WCTU in Wisconsin; and two letters to Rindlaub. Also, includes two leaflets, one poem, and one periodical: "A Responsive reading," by Lella M. Sewall, and "Why a flower mission," poem by Katharine Lent Stevenson (both published by the WCTU Flower Mission Dept.), "What the national WCTU has accomplished" (leaflet no. 91), by Susanna M.D. Fey, and Chautauqua quarterly (vol. 6, no. 1, January 1906) issue about home reading courses. The scrapbook was pasted into a store account book which lists purchases of food and sewing goods. Extant are pp. 2-12, 15-30, 35-64, 73-78, and 85-90.

Temperance organization founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874. Campaigning against the use of alcohol and in favor of labor laws and prison reform, the W.C.T.U. became one of the largest and most influential women's organizations of the 19th century. It became global when the World W.C.T.U. was founded in 1883.
